Marcus Bicknell competed in the K Sports 1600 championship, organised by the BARC, the BRDC and the Clubmans Register, for the year 2001.He finished 10 out of 12 races in the points, with a total of 67 points, finished out of the points in one and failed to finish one race with electrical problems. At the Clubmans annual dinner in Coventry in November he was awarded "Clubmans Best newcomer 2001" (the silver cup is in the picture) won in 2000 by Tim Covill..

During 2001 Marcus had contracted with Ian Megson Motorsport to provide and prepare Ian's 1978 Mallock Mk18 BW sports racing car (No.39) for each of the races in the championship. The Mallock is powered by the Rover 1600 cc twin cam control engine ("control" meaning that only two engineering shops are allowed to rebuild or maintain the engines which are then sealed to allow all cars in the series to compete with equal power) and control tyres. For 2002 Marcus will run the 1984 Mallock 26/27 SG, the yellow car in the photo above which he acquired in October 2001 from Allan Elphick.

"Before I started racing I was already congratulating the Clubman's Register and K Sports 1600 for the professional and friendly welcome afforded to a beginner. Some attitudes displayed by people in the national clubs and other series varied between hostile and disinterested. From my first contacts with K Sports folks I felt as if a new runner would be really welcome, and I found all the information I needed from Brian Jordan's web site http://www.ksports1600.org.uk/ and from those initial contacts. Special thanks for encouraging me to Martin Covill, Brian Jordan, Rob Bicknell, Mike Swinnerton, Ian Megson, Sue Mallock, Richard Mallock, Dan Eaves and Bryony, Richard Thwaite and Colin Bird of Conchango, Darren Manning, Jamie and Phil Bennett at Silverstone, Stan at the Thruxton school, Nick Cook, Suresh Patel and Dave Hooker.

Colleagues and friends raised over  £4000 in the year for Macmillan Cancer Relief by pledging in most cases £1 per point Marcus won in the K Sports Championship 2001. Click on the Macmillan logo to find out more.

"Low budget sponsorship opportunities for me and the team are also available: main attraction is to be with an amateur teams at great circuits with no crowds. My initial sponsor is Pressurised Aircraft Leasing Ltd., the owner/operator of a six-seater pressurised 210 knot Piper Malibu Mirage registered G-PALL and based at Wycombe Air Park, West of London.
