Marcus in the BARC Ricardo Clubmans Cup 2005

Here is the fixtures list for 2005 and after each race the report from my point of view. Sorry the reports are shorter than previous years but the pressure of work yak yak yak. Official reports at  http://www.clubmans.org.uk

  Date Circuit
1
16 April Silverstone National. Good start to the season. Shaved another 2 tenths of last year's time in qualifying but was four places lower on the grid. Everyone else is four faster, and the new type of tyre is helping me less than them. Lonely race to 7th. Winner Barry Webb, Driver of the day Mike Evans.
2
24 April Donington Park. Difficult day at this most charming and challenging of circuits. Car continued to step out at the back all afternoon, including a big spin in qualifying. Good start from 13th on the grid and got to 9th by the end of the first lap. Some others fell off ahead of me but I deteriorated towards the end and Tony Pouyanne got past me after another half spin. Finished 8th, not unhappy under the circumstances. Nice to see Don and John, intent on racing with us next year. Winner Barry Webb, Driver of the Day Howard Payne.
3
8 May Cadwell Park. Flat battery in the assembly area, stripped diff after 2 laps of qualifying. Last. Good battle with Vaughan Thomas for 3 laps then a water leak got onto my rear tyres and I had 3 mammoth slides and a spin at the Hairpin. Last.

21/22 May  Pembrey double header. Raining on Saturday... sandwiched against Nigel Parr at the start, biffed by Kelley at the hairpin, drove across the grass at Brooklands without anyone's help, finished 11th. Dryer on Sunday, although we had a spattering of rain during the race on slick tyres. Drove my heart out but just not quick enough to join the Adrian Lester/Des Andrews battle which I watched for 10 laps. Vaughan Thomas, Alex Osborne and Guy Parr all passed me easily recovering from incidents. Finished 10th. What have I got to do to make the car quicker here? Get a new driver I hear you say.

4 June Oulton Park with Classic Clubmans. Spatter of rain in qualifying, I was 11th on the grid with Alex Osborne the charger behind me. Sure enough, trying to keep ahead of him off the line I spun in the middle of the pack at Cascades on lap 1, the second corner. Terrific reactions by John Palmer and Vaughan Thomas to avoid me, but they both had to take to the grass. Miraculously there was no damage. I recovered, overtook Peter Burnham and Simon Kelly to finish 12th. 3 seconds slower than last year. Why?
a
12 June Silverstone Haggis Memorial Trophy. Wonderful fun celebrating 40 years of Clubmans racing. Came *** in Clubmans Cup
7&8
2/3 July  Croix-en-Ternois: Quel dèsastre. Last in both races having ruined my tyres. Made to wear the "Soiled Underpants" award at prize giving.
9
24 July  Thruxton with Classic Clubmans. I shall miss it because of a family 10th wedding celebration in Rome. Uuuuuww.
10/11
13/14 August Croft with Classic Clubmans. Good meeting for me, and new tyres. Two top ten finishes.
